What hooks you into a new programme?

Consistent with everything we hear about OnDemand viewing and other commercial offerings, an interesting article based on Netflix research says pilot episodes are not necessarily the key to repeat viewing.

What works better  to build “fandom” you may ask?  Removing ads, and non-linear scheduling. On this point, we couldn’t agree more. (You can read the full article here if you like.) SKY and NZ OnDemand services take note! While we know advertising is important to providers, viewing loyalty would increase out of sight if these things could be seriously considered.

So would knowing what you can provide. When approached to signup to a viewing platform recently, I mentioned the lack of provision in certain areas of interest. The answer? New negotiations have confirmed this provision, but it was not being announced to the public just yet… Really? You’re competing for my viewing! At least give me a reason to consider your offer.
